Waking the Coach – a tale of metamorphosis

Yippee!  It’s TODAY, my favourite day!! “What, why?!”, I hear you ask.

It is 10^th Anniversary of my Coach Diplomas!

My Coach diplomas are something I am very proud of. They are a reminder to me of the stand I took in service of my calling. Even though the industry doesn’t require it, I was not willing to call myself Coach without professional training, knowledge & skills. If I was going to coach, I would do it from a position of integrity with myself.

I enrolled, committed and risked myself.

Many people on my course were still working jobs and hoping to seamlessly step into coaching, unwilling to let go of one branch before they had another. Not me! I had no back doors, I had burned my ships on the shore. There was no going back for me, this was it. I was all in!

The truth is I gained more than just a qualification!

Little did I know the enormity of the personal transformation that I would go through over the months of my coach training. I know now that no-one can “train” to be a coach, one “becomes” a coach, just as a caterpillar becomes a moth. Coaching skills may be taught and learned however becoming a coach, that’s a metamorphosis.

I was woken up!  

When I began that course I committed to a personal and professional journey that would change the core of who I am in ways I could not have foreseen. Looking back on myself, pre-Coach, I have a sense that I was living asleep; unconscious to the effects of my thoughts, behaviours and decisions. The journey of becoming Coach woke me up and I am forever grateful that I had the courage to go all in, all the way!

So, every year, I celebrate that Tania – the one who decided to wake up and become herself!
